Sonia Likomitrou


Sonia Likomitrou was born and works in Kastoria as a preschool teacher. She is a graduate of the Department of early Childhood Education, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1990) and the Department of Public Relations and Communication, of the Technological Educational Institution of Western Macedonia (2006). She has received her postgraduate (2009) and doctoral diploma (2015) from the Department of Early childhood Education, School of Education, University of Western Macedonia. The subject of her PhD thesis concerns the study of the type of verbal interactions between preschool teachers and children in early childhood education but also in the investigation of the effectiveness of teachers’ support, in order to improve their dialogic practices during the learning process. She has worked for thirteen years in public kindergartens. Her research interests focus on issues related to the investigation and understanding of personal theories of teachers for the aims of early childhood education, their role and the role of children in the learning process, the enhancement of democratic educational practices in early childhood education and the supporting teachers’ professional learning, with emphasis on the role of the teacher as researcher and reflective practitioner. She has announced part of her research work in scientific meetings and conferences and has published three articles in recognized international and Greek scientific journals.
