Αimilia Fakou


Αimilia Fakou works as an early childhood teacher. She is a graduate of Faculty in Early Childhood Education (BA), School of Education in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She received her MA in Social Justice and Education from Institute of Education, University of London and her Phd in Sociology of Education from Faculty in Early Childhood Education (BA), School of Education in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Drawing from the work of Bourdieu and Bernstein, her thesis explores social class differences in family cultural practices and family school relation. She has worked for 10 years in Greek public kindergartens. Since 2008 she collaborates with the Faculty in Early Childhood Education (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) as student trainer and discussion leader in various workshops, including Intercultural Education, Social Inequalities in Education and Differentiated Pedagogy. She has also worked as a trainer of early childhood and primary school teachers in teacher training program on the education of children from the Muslim minority of Thrace (Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki and National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). She has participated in various research projects and she articles published in International and Greek conference proceedings. Her research interests lie in sociology of education, especially in the area of family, parenting, social class, home school relation, social justice and qualitative research.
