Maria Koumianaki


Maria Koumianaki is a Social Anthropologist; she received her Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Social Anthropology of the Panteion University of Athens (2006) and she obtained her Master’s degree in Education and Human Rights from the Department of Early Childhood Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2014). In her MA thesis she examined the educational paths followed by second generation Albanian immigrant girls to achieve educational success, defined as attendance of tertiary education institutions. She has worked in Non-Governmental Organisations in integration programmes for socially excluded groups and ethnic minorities and as an adult educator in intercultural training programmes. Her research interests include second generation immigrants’ social integration and inequalities in education in relation to social class, gender and ethnic identities.
