Domna-Mika Kakana


Domna-Mika Kakana was born in Thessaloniki. She holds a BA degree from the School of Early Childhood Education of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a MA degree and PhD from the Department of Sciences of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of University of Strasbourg.
She has been a Professor in Theory of Preschool Education, at the Department of Early Childhood Education of University of Thessaly in Greece (1991-2015). She has been the President (2009-2011) and Vice-President (2004-06) of the Department of Early Childhood Education of University of Thessaly, Director of the Postgraduate Programme: "Pedagogic Toys and Pedagogic Equipment for Children's Initial Years" (2004-2011) and the “Theoretical and Applied Pedagogy” Laboratory (2000-2015), President of the Department of Thessaly of the Hellenic Educational Society (2006-2010), as well as a voted member of the board of University of Thessaly. From October 2015, she has been a professor in Theory of Preschool Education at School of Early Childhood Education, Faculty of Education, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
She has approximately 120 publications in Greek and International journals and conference proceedings with a peer review system; she has also over 140 oral presentations in Greek and International conferences. She has written 4 books, while she has been the editor of 4 more books. She has participated in many European research programmes in the field of Education; she has been a referee in Greek and International journals as well as a certified Educator of Teacher Training experienced in adult education. Her recent research interests focus on the pre-service teacher education as well as on the professional development, on the assessment and self-assessment process, and the development of contemporary environments of teaching and learning in preschool education, such as collaborative environments, new didactic approaches.
